Bill Nighy Joins Colin Farrell in Total Recall

Bill Nighy's close to signing on to the remake of Total Recall set to star Colin Farrell in the role Arnold Schwarzenegger played in the original film. Also ready to take on roles in the remake are Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, Kate Beckinsale (wife of director Len Wiseman) and Jessica Biel. Nighy's role is described as a leader of the resistance named Quatto.
On the red carpet at the Salt premiere screenwriter Kurt Wimmer confirmed this new take on the Philip K Dick short story will not be going to Mars. "The original film was great; I respect it a lot. I'm using a lot of the structure. We're also returning to the novel and we're making a hybrid. We're not going to Mars - we're on Earth," said Wimmer in our exclusive interview. Asked what fans of the original Total Recall are going to think of this remake, Wimmer replied, "They're going to love it. They're going to love it because I respect the original film so much that I preserved it in its genetic form."
What we know of this version's plot is that Farrell will be playing a factory worker named Douglas Quaid who can't figure out if he's a spy for rival nations Euromerica or New Shanghai.
Filming is expected to begin next month with Columbia Pictures setting an August 3, 2012 release.
